  • (538807) - I am not sure at the time of this writing, but I feel it is close to something like the Indian/Iranian wolf and the fishing cat.
  • (538790) - I haven't figured out my exact theriotype so far, but I'm fairly sure that it is canine. I've also got a notion that it my at least bear a striking resemblance to domestic dogs.
  • (538173) - Male Melanistic Grey Wolf
3. Are you a therian or otherkin or something else?
Total Number of Comments37
  • (618723) - therian, wolf spirit. I do not apply any lables as to what i am, and i do not generally participate in the therian community
  • (604549) - Yes, I identify as therian.
  • (604538) - Therianthrope
  • (594621) - That depends. I am a Therian, but view myself as Otherkin as well. I see both as equal and I often will refer to both as just 'Kin'.
  • (582657) - Therianthrope
  • (577835) - therian
  • (558899) - I consider myself Otherkin.
  • (547703) - I am a therian.
  • (538807) - Therian
  • (538790) - I'm not keen on labels because they tend to abet stereotyped thinking, but since my theriotype is animalistic I suppose being a therian fits me best.
  • (538173) - Suntherian
4. What do you think of Project Pawprint?
Total Number of Comments36
  • (618723) - its interesting
  • (604549) - I love it. I hope one day it might be fully realized.
  • (604538) - I think it would be a wonderful way to give a view of therians from their own perspectives without outside interpretation (i.e.: that feature on werewolves last Halloween on History Channel, ick)
  • (594621) - I'm not so sure...
  • (582657) - I think it's definitely a good effort, by anyone involved. It's a great opportunity to get the facts out there and make an attempt to debunk some of the misconceptions about therianthropy that are out there.
  • (577835) - i think that it's a good idea to show people what we are about, that we are not role players, and we do exsist as a community.
  • (558899) - I think it is a very interesting idea and I hope it ends up working out. It will be interesting to see what happens when mentions of therians and otherkin becomes more than just an aside in some documentaries or news stories.
  • (547703) - I think it's a magnificent project and will really help people understand what therians are truely like.
  • (538807) - A serious documentary on our existence sounds like a great way to go, for me.
  • (538790) - I've yet to stumble across a serious report on therians or otherkin not giving them a bad reputation. Those discreditable reports, be it TV shows, newspaper articles or even online blogs, are out there and we can't do anything about it. Therefore, Project Pawprint can act as an antipole and I give it a favorable opinion. Having said that producing a film on a professional level so that it can compete with professional reports in terms of storyline (since the film should probably be suitable and somehow entertaining for the mass), publicity effect and image/sound quality is a quite demanding task. I'm not sure if the community has the resources to master such a big project at the moment, especially because the actors mustn't have a problem with being outed publicly as therians. As far as I observed, the technical knowledge is readily available in the community. More far-sighted, do we also have the contacts to wisely promote such a film?
  • (538173) - This is a wonderful project, and it will really help the community to come closer together.

10. What do you think of P-shifting? Please give your honest answer. You're answers will not be held against you in any way.
Total Number of Comments36
  • (618723) - Until I experience it personally, im leaning towards non-belief but i do know someone who claims to be able to do so
  • (604549) - A nice dream but unreal. Its nice to daydream about the idea but unfortunately its physically impossible plan and simple.
  • (604538) - It has never been proven as true, and therefore it is impossible to me unless proven otherwise. If it were for real, I would be ecstatic and immediately begin researching how to do so.
  • (594621) - I think that it is possible with the use of different types of energy. I do, however, hate those who claim to P-shift without anything solid behind it.
  • (582657) - I work on a basis of logic and science. Physical shifting goes against laws of nature and physics, and so is impossible until proven otherwise. All the people I've run into claiming to p-shift have either been deluded, or making it up to feel important and awesome. They hide their inability to shift physically behind comments like "If I were to show proof, the government would capture me and do lab tests on me" or "I can't do a timed photo because the wolf in me would eat the camera" and other quite convenient comments. I will not believe anyone's word for it, I'm smarter than that. If they want to prove to me that they can truly shapeshift, my door is open to them. They have a private area to shift, and couldn't have a better audience unless they did it in front of Savage or Jakkal themselves. Basically, I view it as humanly impossible, but I'm open to anyone who wishes to prove it, especially in person.
  • (558899) - I think it would be really cool, if it were physically possible. If I had someone stand in front of me and then turn into an animal and back, I would certainly want to know how to do it.
  • (547703) - I believe that p-shifting would be a very welcome experience, but unfortuantely, is not possible at this time. It is my hope that this will be attainable in the future, though.
  • (538807) - It's silly to ponder. It's better to worry about being a human.
  • (538790) - I always go for an scientific approach if possible, but on the one hand I have to admit that there are many phenomena that can't be thoroughly explained by means of conventional science. P-shifting is on the other hand a pretty good observable change and therefore I don't believe that it's possible until somebody can provide traceable proof. I highly doubt this will happen eventually.
  • (538173) - I believe that p-shifting is possible to some degree in everyone, and others can in fact p-shift.
  • (538172) - I believe that p-shifting is possible to some degree in everyone, and others can in fact p-shift.

12. How did you find out about therianthrophy? How old were you?
Total Number of Comments37
  • (618723) - 13, im not sure how, something just happened in my brain, i just knew....
  • (604549) - I was 15. I was googling facts about werewolves, typed in ’really werewolves’ and happened upon a webpage called The Therianthropic Resource.
  • (604538) - Browsing the Internet after I had started noticing a phantom tail at the age of 14.
  • (594621) - I was actually researching Werewolves for my books that I was writing and found the term 'Therianthropy'. I did some research and found out that I was a Therian, or what I like to call Kin. I share my body with a Wolf by the name of Jaggedclaw. I am a Suntherian.
  • (582657) - I was around 12-13 when I found the Werelist. I lurked for a couple of years, learning and growing with the community. That's when I found out there was a term for what I was going through and feeling. I've always been close with nature, even at a very young age. And I was always close with canines of any kind. I believe it was around 5 or 6 when I realized that I just wasn't "right." That what I felt and experienced was something other children didn't feel and experience.. Not to say I was special, I'm not, I just have a different thought process.
  • (577835) - i found out through a friend, and i was 16.
  • (558899) - I discovered therianthropy when I was 19 and I was googling information about animal people. I had felt that my spirit was an animal/non-human for a long time and my curiosity regarding stories about others who may felt this way was sparked when I read Charles De Lint's Someplace to be Flying. I think I was google searching animal people and stumbled across the werelist. I was interested and my curiosity and self-reflection grew from there.
  • (547703) - I was 16, a few months from turning 17. I found out about it through a friend (unintentionally on their part) and the the furry fandom.
  • (538807) - I was around 12-13 and found out through an artist who admitted to being a wolf/bear therian.
  • (538790) - [Of course this hasn't changed since I entered the community, hence I'll provide an excerpt of the introduction I've posted on WereList below.] I’ve found out about therianthropy by randomly following a link to the Awereness Forums on google. I've been an animal person my whole life, but I've never known that there exists a term for it. Not that I seriously thought about coming up with a label for it before ;). I wondered about the tail or about me wanting to growl, but I never gave it any kind of deep thought. I can’t pinpoint the exact date of stumbling upon the therian community, but it must have been around the beginning of 2008 [I was in my early twenties then] because my registration on WereList followed rather soon afterwards.
  • (538173) - I found out at 12, I was looking up wolves in dreams and I stumbled across therianthropy, which I knew fit with me, I have been a therian scince.
13. Have you ever changed your theriotype? IE From a cat to a wolf?
Total Number of Comments37
  • (618723) - No, I knew i was a wolf
  • (604549) - Yes and no. I've always thought I was a wolf, though I always thought I was only a wolf. Then I realized my shark theriotype after I found the community.
  • (604538) - Nope, I've always been a fox.
  • (594621) - Jaggedclaw has once introduced me to a Cat's perspective by bringing another spirit to me. I do not know this Cat spirit's name.
  • (582657) - The most change it ever went through was from wolf to wolf/raccoon hybrid. When I considered myself a wolf, I hadn't exactly pinpointed the raccoon part. It always felt like something was missing when I was just considering myself to be a wolf theriotype. But it all came together as soon as I found out about the raccoon part.
  • (577835) - no
  • (558899) - When I first began actively thinking about my spirituality as an otherkin I accidently mixed up my totem/spirit partner with my kintype. I originally thought I was a wolf because I had had dreams and visions of a white one as a child. However, as I began to think more actively about it I realized he was a separate entity that followed my around. I began thinking of other animals that I had felt strongly about in my life. The semester before I discovered therianthropy and otherkin I had completed a course in ornithology. The birds began fascinating me and the entire semester I felt drawn the Corvids. I began researching the behavior of various Corvids and found my spirit family in the ravens. I felt incredibly drawn to ravens and their behavior, and the more I learned the more I saw myself. However, raven therian never quite fit so I did more research in ravens in mythology seeking perhaps a creature that was close or similar to ravens but had more going on. I had always felt very close to the archetypes of warrior guardian and priestess. I found these three elements, ravens, warriors, and priestesses in the Japanese Raven Spirit, the Karasu Tengu. So ultimately through a few related guises I found my kintype.
  • (547703) - No, I've been an Eastern Wolf since I discovered I was a therian.
  • (538807) - Not changed, it just appears that over time I am more aware of the particulars of my animal nature. I exclusively called myself a red wolf therian until I realized that perhaps that was not only not accounting for feeling feline as well, I had little basis concerning behavior and instincts. I am not sure I will ever
  • (538790) - No, I always stuck to the feeling of being canine.
  • (538173) - No, it just got more specific.
14. Do you have anything other than your theiroside? IE vampirism, etc?
Total Number of Comments34
  • (618723) - Nah
  • (604549) - No not that I know of, less you consider being a multiple, being a person among several in only one body something notable. My therianthropy is mine alone though.
  • (604538) - I teach myself a variety of spiritual/psychic abilities. I've recently worked with astral projection and aura. Oh, and I'm learning guitar.
  • (594621) - I am psychic if that is what you mean. I am an Empath. I also can take in spiritual energies with my right hand and expel it with my left. It is still new to me. I am working on a theory.
  • (577835) - no
  • (558899) - No.
  • (547703) - No, I do not.

15. If you were to help someone looking into therianthrophy or finding out about it, what would you tell them?
Total Number of Comments37
  • (618723) - You are what you are, so what do you feel deep inside you?
  • (604549) - Listen to yourself. Know thy self. No one knows you better then you.
  • (604538) - Explain what I know, let them know I don't know nearly enough and that they need to find answers to their own questions, and refer them to some useful books or a trusted website
  • (594621) - What I knew and what I learned.
  • (582657) - Patience, research, patience and even more research and patience. It took me around 5-4 years to pinpoint that I was a type of wolf, and another 2 to finally find out about the raccoon portion. Therianthropy can be daunting, confusing, and very frustrating. But if you rush it, you'll end up lying to yourself, and inevitably admit that you made a rash decision based on false "facts." I've seen it happen way too many times, even to people I previously warned about taking the process too fast. It's not going to happen overnight, and it probably won't happen in a year. Just stay calm and collected, do your research, have patience, and learn from the community.
  • (577835) - do a lot of soul searching, meditaion usualy helps to figure out what your therian type could possibly be, and
  • (558899) - I would probably direct them to the more reputable sites I've found, such as Werelist and The Otherkin Community. I would also tell them that I would be willing to talk to them about it and help them out, however, they ultimately have to make their own decisions about their spirituality.
  • (547703) - I would reccomend that they go to Werelist, for one. For another, I would invite them to a weekly therian chatroom that I frequent. I would also relate to them my own personal experience of how I found out I was a therian.
  • (538807) - Read articles and say little, write about yourself for years and analyze later. Experience and live life, do not feel that you need to be apart of a community.
  • (538790) - I can't generally answer this question because what I'd tell the person in question would would highly depend on his/her individual beliefs and on the relationship between us.
  • (538173) - To visit sites like the Werelist and Otherkin Phenomena
16. Do you experience species dsyphoria? If so, how does it affect you?
Total Number of Comments35
  • (618723) - sometimes i just feel this body isnt right...
  • (604549) - Yes. It confuses me sometimes. Turning around and then realized I’m not a wolf or a shark. That I have to walk up right, that I can’t breathe underwater, that I can’t do this that. I’m too slow, my senses are dull and awkward, and so on.
  • (604538) - Maybe, if I have it's never been very bad. It can be frustrating, but my almost constant phantom shifts keep me content enough. I think the worst it gets is staring at the woods longingly and wishing to just go in, be a fox, and never leave.
  • (594621) - Sometimes. It was strange and exciting all at once.
  • (582657) - Yes, 100% yes. It's very debilitating and a huge part of my depressive states. There are times where I can barely force myself out of bed to go do normal tasks. When I was working [unemployed right now] I called out many times with lies about being sick when I really was just in a heap of sobs on the floor just minutes before. It's hard to deal with, and it's always there. It never goes away, that thought of "I'm not what I'm supposed to be." It's better now that I'm not working, but it's still there, always in my mind. The only thing I can do is live life day by day, hoping today isn't going to be the day where I collapse to the ground in defeated sobbing.
  • (577835) - no
  • (558899) - I experience often an emotional/cognitive process dysphoria with human trains of thought. I often feel that I don't really understand many of the motivations of people around me. It's difficult sometimes in social situations where it is expected to have a certain response and I don't make it automatically and there is a delay as I remember what is expected of my behavior. As far as body dysphoria goes I don't suffer from it much. Sometimes I think it would be nice to perch on a branch or be able to make certain motions, but my human body just doesn't cut it. It doesn't really bother me though.
  • (547703) - Admittedly, I have experienced species dysphoria before. The feeling comes and goes, but it doesn't affect any aspect of my life but my private life. It has made me depressed, and I like to be alone when I feel it, but I can hide it from others so they don't worry or ask.
  • (538807) - No
  • (538173) - I do occasionally, sometimes I just don`t recognize myself when I look in the mirror. I get depressed often about being human.
  • (538172) - I do occasionally, sometimes I just don`t recognize myself when I look in the mirror. I get depressed often about being human.
17. Does being a therian affect your every day life? If so, how?
Total Number of Comments35
  • (618723) - natural wolf reactions are impossible to avoid, which is quite embarassing in public...
  • (604549) - Yes. Shifting can be a bit of a hastle, but I work around it. Its effects what I sometiems like to do in my spare time and so on, as well as how I feel about myself. See Above for more.
  • (604538) - Well, I crack subtle jokes about it to my friends, but not a lot. I have to keep my therianthropy a closely guarded secret from certain friends that I know would be furious with me, and, worst of all, my dad.
  • (594621) - Yes. It allows me to see the world in a different way.
  • (582657) - Not all therians have species dysphoria, but I do, and while at times it can be a great comfort and peace of mind, other times it can just fuel the flames of my dysphoria. It all depends on if I've been able to release pent up emotions or go outside and just be [to the best of my abilities] what I wish so much to be. That includes just running through the woods, running around with my wife or friends. Something as simple as that makes me smile.. It makes me understand the importance of taking time out to play, laugh, and enjoy the little things in life, like having fun with friends and family.
  • (577835) - it generally doesn't affect my daily life, because i have really good control over when i shift, and when i don't.
  • (558899) - Yes, my being an otherkin affects me in some of my choices. I think it helps give me focus for things I have known about myself my entire life. Being otherkin inspired me to learn many things about animals that I may not have normally researched, it inspired me to begin learning a second language, it inspired me to learn about different cultures and discover their legends. I feel that being an otherkin has affected my life positively and gives me great opportunity to know myself and to discover great knowledge in this world.
  • (547703) - It doesn't, really. Those I've told are okay with it (except one person who makes fun of me for it and thinks I also enjoy beastiality because of it), and those I haven't told have no idea.
  • (538807) - Of course it does, just like being alive and being an individual affects life - but to say negative or positive, I make the best of who I am. It doesn't hinder me.
  • (538173) - It affects how I act towards others. In general, I am very territorial, will do anything for my friends (pack mentality), I growl when surprised or angered, and I panic when I`m backed into a corner or physically restrained.

  • (618723) - Let the wolf guide you, follow your instincts.
  • (604549) - This is me. I live with it, so should you. I'm human I just have an identity deal. 'Big whoop.'
  • (604538) - That this is what I've always been. In the time that you've known me to the time I told you I was a therian nothing changed. I was like that the whole time.
  • (594621) - Anything is possible.
  • (558899) - Ultimately in anything, be yourself, no matter what that is.
  • (547703) - I am not only human. I am also a wolf. I believe that I am a wolf spirit with a human body. That is all.
  • (538807) - We aren't anything special, but please go out and live. Experience, share, love, and don't be afraid of who you are - no one else really is either.
  • (538173) - Biting isn`t "immature", it`s natural. You think that biting is something only little kids do because they don`t have other ways to deal with things, but you`re wrong. Biting is a panicked response, it`s instinctual, and you`re just scared of your instinct.

  • (520972) - First of all, "Do you believe in werewolves?", then if they said no then I would ask why, then I would tell them a little about therianthropy.
  • (513716) - To take a deep breath and relax. Things are never as bad or as complicated as they first seem.
19. What is your feelings on the therian bible and the therian temple? Do you believe that being a therian is religious or mental or spiritual?
Total Number of Comments35
  • (618723) - lol bunch of bollucks... 'therianthropy' is strictly personal for me, and spiritual, not religious, its not something you choose to believe in
  • (604549) - Neutral. I would have liked to read it at least to know for myself, but because I really don’t know that much about it I can’t really say wither way. Therianthropy isn’t a belief as much as it is a phenomena and identity. If someone wants make a belief system around the therianthropy then who is to stop them as long as they don’t go around claiming all true therians follow this or that creed.I think therianthropy is caused by a whole host of different phenomena that is different for every person.
  • (604538) - I think, that by its very nature of, well, nature, therianthropy isn't extremely organized. Forums and howls let therians get together and discuss important topics amongst themselves, but a bible or temple just doesn't seem like the best of ideas. Each therian needs to be able to live their lives as they see best for themselves and their theriotype. Not how some text that somebody wrote says you should live, regardless of what "almighty power" told them to write their works. Also, therianthropy is most likely a combination of mental and spritual aspects. Therianthropy doesn't seem likely to be religious considering the animal we are have never had organized religion or even disorganized religion.
  • (594621) - Hah! Therianthropy as a religion?! Don't make me laugh. I might make myself out to be a bit cold here, so I'll explain. While I don't really care what you believe, I will tell those who may read this that Therianthropy is not a religion, but some can treat it as such. I am a Cristian at heart, but I am more open minded. Therianthropy is the sharing, fusion, or reincarnation of animal in human body and soul. I believe that some Animal's souls have been sent back to a physical plane because of some divine plan by God. That being Re-incarnation. Some may have been born with two souls or both souls fused together. Now, Therianthropy as a religion would make some people come up with a stereotype that 'all therianthropes are a giant cult' or something like that. Keep this in mind.
  • (582657) - Recent searches for the Therian Temple have just come up with discussions and articles about the group. The domain http://theriantemple.com is no longer turning up in searches, and when followed turns up a "Problem Loading Page" error. Aside from this, I think the Therian Temple is nothing more than something to con $20 bucks from people with misleading ideas, definitions and beliefs. They change up terms and the definitions that the community has laid out. Physical shifting to them is that their senses become more powerful.. This is not what physical shifting is as there is no physical change happening. What they were describing was a Sensory Shift, a type of mental/perception shift that makes you more aware of your senses, not makes them stronger. I think most of them are probably butthurt from the community in some way and thus decided to branch off and make their own community. When faced with the mainstream therian community's reaction they sort of went along their own way, and probably just fizzled out into nothing. Even their News Blog isn't turning up. So to say the least, I don't think they are good for the community, but to each their own. As long as they aren't trying to recruit new members, or trying to convince people to hock over 20 dollars for some book, then I'm fine.
  • (577835) - i belive that being a therian is a spiritual thing rather than a mental or religious.
  • (558899) - I thinks it's silly and a bit of a scam.
  • (547703) - I have no idea what you are talking about and I honestly think it's a bit absurd. However, I do not believe in criticizing people because of their beliefs. I don't agree with it, but I will accept and respect it.
  • (538807) - It's a load of shit, the bible and temple, and I think this is all very neurological and psychological.
  • (538790) - Speaking for myself, being therian is rather a mental condition than anything spiritual. It does fit in well with different religions. One may freely choose which religion one practices (if any at all), but for the most of us being therian is something you're born with and therefore not comparable to the concept of religious beliefs.
  • (538173) - I have not read the therian bible, but I have read up on the therian temple. I believe that there are ways people can become therians (i.e. walk-ins), and I don`t believe in the vegetarian diet thing. I do however, believe that therianthropy-based magic can be helpful to some esoteric religions such as Wicca. I believe that therianthropy is mental and spiritual, and that some people are spiritual therians, while others are mental.
